Homepage Guidelines

MySpace offers multiple premium ad products. Each product consists of multiple creative pieces which are listed individually below. Also listed are total size specifications for each product offered.

Performance Requirements

All of the above units need to adhere by the following performance requirements to ensure proper delivery and reach all performance expectations.

  • CPU utilization should not exceed 70%.
  • CPU utilization should not consistently (over 2-3 seconds) be above 50%.
  • CPU memory usage should not exceed 70 MB.
  • Frame Rate is limited to 18 frames per second.
Approved Ad Vendors

Below is a list of our technically approved rich media vendors. All products and ad units are accepted unless noted otherwise. If you would like to be added to our approved list of certified rich media vendors please email adopstech@myspace.com for further inquires. Standard testing and verification requires a 2 week turnaround process. 3rd party partners will typically provide impressions and click-through data, as well as enhanced interaction metrics. Please consult your rich media partner of choice for more detail.

Rich Media Vendors w/ Included Programs

A Rich Media Included Program is where MySpace pays the serving fees associated with a campaign IF certain rate/CPM thresholds are met. In the event that a Rich Media vendor is allowed on MySpace but doesn't have an established "Included Program," client must be directly billed for any serving fees.

Rules and Exceptions

Below you will find specifics for all of our rich media offered products. Turnaround time for all rich media products is 10 business days using a 3rd party vendor and 15 business days for in-house development. For all custom rich media (in-house solution) we require all assets be delivered 15 days prior to the launch date. Assets delivered outside of this timeline are subject to delay.

Video

  • The initial play of video can be host-initiated (automatic load), but video must start only after the advertisement "shell" units have fully loaded.

Audio

  • All audio must be user-initiated by an onClick event.
  • Hotspot for onClick event must be confined to a call-to-action area.

Expansion

Expansion is not approved to run for the following placements/pages

MySpace Music

  • Featured Playlist/Celebrity Promo

Expansion Guidelines

  • Expansion allowed on hotspotted rollover or click.
  • Please give unit the ability to detect browser edges, and to expand in the opposite direction if expanded portion will disappear off browser window.
  • Can only expand to double the size of the ad (i.e. a 300x250 cannot expand to more than 600x250 or 300x500). There are two exceptions. A 728x90 can expand to a total dimension of 728x270 and a 430x600 can expand to 700x600. Please ask your account manager for any other exceptions.
  • Expanding ads must have close button containing the word "Close."
  • Expanding ads must contract when user's mouse leaves the ad unit. Once collapsed, the ad should not block any links with an invisible clear layer.
  • Shine-through within some page elements (transparent layers usually generated with expandable creative such as search boxes) appearing on top of an ad should be removed from the creative.

Overlay/Floating ads and approvals

  • All overlays must be approved by adopstech@myspace-inc.com
  • NO FULL PAGE ADS, unless approved by adopstech@myspace.com.
  • 10 seconds play time maximum for floating component.
  • 20 second maximum for reminder unit.
  • Close button needs to contain the word "Close" and must remain visible for the entire duration of both components and close box color must contrast with the rest of the ad unit.
  • Unit cannot move if user scrolls down the page.
  • The edges of the overlay ad area can be no greater than 800x600 on the MySpace homepage.
  • Overlay ad unit itself be no larger than 500x500 unless on the MySpace homepage.
  • Overlay ads must have close button.
  • Close button must contain the word "Close" and be present on overlay at all times.
  • Unit must have all sound controls when playing video, pause, play, stop and mut.

Floating Surveys and Pop-ups

  • All Research Studies involving overlays must be routed through Tessa Robinson-Solley
    (a) approve the creative
    (b) call out issues regarding where the ad can run
    (c) escalate impression-level concerns as necessary
    (d) inform the product managers that these will be running and that they are approved.
  • Overlay surveys can only appear on the UHP and ROS, EXCEPT Channel Homepages and anywhere on MySpace Video where a video player lives, as well as anywhere a MySpace Music player lives (Music Featured Playlist, Personal Music Player, etc.)
